Terrific guy, really knows marketing

I am doing one on one coaching with Jonathan. One tip, while given with strong encouragement, has taken me from about 25% of the results I see to about 75% of the results I seek and not only that, but the increase is driving a whole new direction which will likely mean a 30% bump in revenue next year, plusmore as time goes on. It's huge for me!

I have gained focus [critical to success], clarity, greater commitment to goals and plans. I have gained insight and strategies for growth that have been invaluable to me personally and professionally. Just knowing I am going to speak with Jonathan drives greater focus and action. His energy is infectious.

"Jonathan, Thank you for the spot on marketing advice you've given me. You truly have an uncanny way of pinpointing exactly what I need to do grow my business! I wish you worked right here in my office so I could pick your brain all day!"

Thank you so much. I just really appreciate it.

I feel empowered and, and yes, I’ll say it again… You are BRILLIANT

I just got off the meeting with you and I am so pumped i just feel like we've got some real, gosh, steps that we can take we had all these ideas pages and pages of ideas sent.

You really help to hone ‘em down to some very few ideas, clarify it, give us some simple steps. I have a tendency to be creative and complicated and you allowed me to kinda get to the essence of these with some very good ideas, …

I'm taking all of these notes and I'm going to sit down and rework our plans with this, so thank you so much. I just really appreciate it. I feel empowered and, and yes, I’ll say it again… You are BRILLIANT, Thank you!

Had I Known... I Would Have Saved Over $3,500" ...

If I had known just one of the many powerful (yet simple) tools that Jonathan teaches back in last year, I would have saved over $3,500 just in paying a copywriter who didn't know how to write a restaurant business plan... not to mention the days I would have saved in pain, agony, and turmoil trying to get my plan in the right persons hands!

I have one recommendation for you. Follow in my footsteps and listen to every word Jonathan has to say and buy everything he offers. He is an extremely honest guy... and charges way, way less than he should. (In fact, if he takes my advice, his prices will be going up soon. What you learn from Jonathan will save you untold hours…and even better, WILL put money in your bank account."

Google Is Giving Business Owners More Control

Google Is Giving Business Owners More Control

Google Is Giving Business Owners More Control Over Suggested Profile Changes

Imagine arriving at your business one morning and discovering that someone changed the sign, moved the front door and posted new hours without telling you.

That sounds ridiculous in the real world.

Online, however, something similar has been happening to business owners for years.

Customers, Google Maps users, Local Guides and other third parties can suggest changes to your Google Business Profile. Those suggestions may involve your hours, phone number, website, business category, address or even whether your business is open.

Some suggestions are helpful and completely accurate.

Others are based on outdated information, misunderstandings or, occasionally, deliberate attempts to hurt a competitor.

Until recently, owners often discovered these changes only after Google had already published them.

Google is now taking an important step toward changing that.

Google’s New Business Profile Edit Alerts

In April 2026, Google announced that it had begun rolling out proactive email alerts for verified and active Business Profile owners.

These alerts give owners an opportunity to review important suggested edits before Google publishes them.

The email may ask a simple question such as:

“Does this look right to you?”

That sounds like a small improvement, but it changes the order of operations.

Previously, you might not discover an inaccurate change until a customer called the wrong number, arrived after Google said you were closed or mentioned that your website link no longer worked.

Now, Google may give you an opportunity to catch the problem first.

Google announced this change as part of a broader effort to protect businesses on Maps. The company also said it is using Gemini models to identify and block policy-violating edits before they appear publicly. Read Google’s announcement.

Why Google Allows Other People to Suggest Changes

Google wants Maps to reflect what is happening in the real world.

If a restaurant changes its hours, a store closes temporarily or a business moves, customers may notice before the owner updates the profile. Suggested edits allow the community to help Google keep millions of listings current.

The scale is enormous.

Google reports that Maps users suggested approximately 80 million updates to business hours, contact information and other profile details during 2025. Google also says its systems blocked 79 million inaccurate or unverified edits during the year.

The problem is that no automated system will get every decision right.

A customer may incorrectly assume you are closed. An old directory may still show your previous phone number. Google may detect conflicting information across the internet and decide that another source is more accurate than the information on your profile.

That is why this new opportunity to review important edits matters.

This Does Not Completely Lock Your Profile

Business owners should welcome the update, but they should not treat it as a complete security system.

Google specifically says the alerts apply to important edits and are rolling out for verified and active owners. Google has not said that every suggested change will require approval.

Its current help documentation also says that owners cannot manage every Google-generated update through their Business Profile. Google may still use customer reports, licensed information and other sources to update business details. Review Google’s guidance on profile updates.

In other words:

  • You may receive advance warning about an important edit.

  • Google’s systems may block some suspicious suggestions automatically.

  • Other updates may still appear without waiting for your approval.

  • You still need to monitor your profile.

This update adds a valuable layer of protection. It does not remove the owner’s responsibility to keep the profile accurate.

Why Suggested Edits Matter for Local SEO

Your Google Business Profile helps Google understand what your business is, where it operates and which searches it may match.

Google says local rankings are primarily influenced by:

  • Relevance: How closely your business matches what someone is searching for

  • Distance: How far the business is from the person searching

  • Prominence: How established and well-known the business appears

Accurate, complete information helps Google understand the relevance of your business. Google’s local ranking guidance specifically recommends keeping business information complete and current.

Consider the difference between someone searching for:

  • “Plumber near me”

  • “Plumber who installs tankless water heaters”

  • “Emergency plumber open Sunday”

  • “Commercial plumber serving Cary”

  • “Dentist offering same-day crowns”

  • “Restaurant with outdoor seating open tonight”

The more specific the search becomes, the more information Google needs to determine which businesses fit.

If your hours are wrong, Google may exclude you when someone searches for an open business.

If your primary category changes, Google may misunderstand the type of business you operate.

If your address or map pin moves, your visibility can change in the geographic areas you serve.

If your phone number or website changes, customers may never reach you even when your listing appears.

Profile accuracy affects more than whether your listing looks professional. It can affect whether you get found, whether you appear relevant and whether the customer can take the next step.

Why This Matters Even More as Search Uses More AI

People are becoming more conversational in the way they search.

Instead of typing two or three broad words, they are asking Google and AI-powered search tools to recommend businesses that meet very specific needs.

They want to know:

  • Who provides the exact service they need?

  • Who serves their location?

  • Who is open right now?

  • Who has the strongest reputation?

  • Who offers a particular product, treatment or specialty?

  • Who appears to be the best match for their situation?

AI can only work with the information it can find and understand.

When your business name, categories, services, hours, website and location information agree across your profile and the rest of the internet, Google receives a clearer picture of your business.

When those details conflict, Google has to decide which source to trust.

That makes accurate business information part of both traditional local SEO and your growing AI-search presence.

Could This Help Prevent Competitor Sabotage?

Yes, but it will not eliminate the risk completely.

An inaccurate suggestion does not always come from a competitor. Customers make mistakes, directories contain old information and automated systems draw the wrong conclusions.

However, malicious edits do happen.

A bad actor could suggest changing your:

  • Primary business category

  • Phone number

  • Website

  • Address or map location

  • Operating hours

  • Open or closed status

Google’s new email alerts and Gemini-powered screening create additional roadblocks before some of those changes reach the public.

That is good news.

The safest approach is still to verify your profile, limit account access, monitor your information and respond quickly when something changes.

What Business Owners Should Do Now

1. Confirm That Your Profile Is Verified

Google says these advance alerts are intended for verified and active owners.

Search for your business while signed into the Google account connected to the profile. Confirm that you can access the profile’s editing and management controls.

If someone else created the profile, make sure you have owner access and know which email account controls it.

2. Review Who Has Access

Open your Business Profile settings and review the people and organizations with access.

Remove former employees, previous agencies and anyone who no longer needs permission to manage the business.

3. Check Your Notification Settings

Google allows businesses to manage notifications by opening the Business Profile, selecting More and then selecting Notifications.

Make sure important account and business-information alerts are enabled. More importantly, send them to an inbox someone actually monitors. Google’s notification instructions.

An alert provides no protection if it sits unread for two weeks.

4. Verify Your Most Important Fields

Pay particular attention to:

  • Business name

  • Primary category

  • Address and map pin

  • Phone number

  • Website

  • Regular hours

  • Holiday and special hours

  • Open or closed status

These details can directly affect visibility, customer trust and the actions people take after finding you.

5. Make Your Information Consistent Everywhere

Your Google Business Profile is not the only source Google uses.

Review the business information on your website, Facebook page, Apple Maps, Bing, Yelp and major industry directories.

If half the internet shows one phone number and your Google profile shows another, Google receives conflicting signals about which one is correct.

Consistent information gives Google fewer reasons to question or override the details you provide.

6. Add a Regular Profile Check to Your Calendar

Do not assume Google will email you about every change.

At least once a week, search for your business and check the public profile as a customer would see it.

Verify the phone number, website, hours, categories and map location. Look for alerts inside the profile editor and investigate anything that has changed.

It takes only a few minutes and could prevent weeks of missed calls or lost visibility.

The Bigger Lesson

Claiming your Google Business Profile does not mean you can set it once and forget it.

Your profile is a living business asset influenced by your updates, customer activity, public suggestions and information Google collects from other sources.

Google’s new edit-alert system gives business owners more control and a better opportunity to catch inaccurate changes before customers see them.

But the responsibility still sits with the business.

Keep the profile verified. Keep the information accurate. Watch the inbox. Check the public listing regularly.

Because when customers ask Google who they should call, where they should go or which business can solve their problem, Google can only recommend your business based on the information it believes is true.
